In the wake of no checks being conducted,a piece of land in Manimajra has been taken over by scrap dealers. The residents of the area rue that due to the presence of scrap dealers, the surroundings have an unkempt look. Repeated representations made by the residents to the officials have gone unheard.

The market of the scrap dealers has grown in size over a period of time. While polythene bags are banned in the city, these are present in abundance in the area with the scrap dealers segregating the garbage here.

The plot of land that has been occupied by the scrap dealers is near farm houses and a market. Labourers have set up huts in the area and are living there. In the absence of water supply and sewerage system, the surroundings are filthy and there is a lack of hygienic conditions.

H S Johl,an area resident says,“The Administration is not taking any action against the scrap dealers despite having given representations repeatedly. The problems in the area is increasing by the day. There is lack of safety and since the land is acquired the officials should take action to ensure that it remains free of encroachments.”

Permanent sheds have also started coming up.

The area where the scrap dealers are present is at a little distance from the IT Park. Johl says that the encroachments throughout the city have gone unchecked.

That is the reason that slums mushroomed in various sectors. Thereafter, the Administration is providing houses under the rehabilitation scheme.
