The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Friday began preparations for the coming elections to four municipal corporations and 29 municipal committees and nagar panchayats with party president and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal deputing senior party leaders as observers to ensure the party wins these polls.
Disclosing this,party Secretary and spokesman Daljit Singh Cheema said for the municipal corporation elections cabinet minister and Youth Akali Dal president Bikram Singh Majithia and Member of Parliament and district president of Amritsar (Rural) Dr Rattan Singh Ajnala have been appointed observers for the Amritsar Municipal Corporation. For Jalandhar,Sewa Singh Sekhwan,member of the partys core committee has been deputed as observer while for Ludhiana,cabinet minister Janmeja Singh Sekhon and for Patiala minister and Sikander Singh Maluka have been appointed as observers.
Cheema said the observers will consult district unit office bearers,senior leaders of the party and local Bharatiya Janata Party leaders for mutual allocation of seats and will recommend the names of potential candidates to the party president.
The organisational committees have been formed for 29 municipal committees and nagar panchayats.
These would comprise district president,local MLA and SGPC member of the area.
After shortlisting the candidates,a final list of the candidates would be released by party president Sukhbir Singh Badal himself, Cheema added.
