On Monday, rumours were rife that UT Advisor Pradeep Mehra had been transferred from the city. Frantic calls were exchanged between bureaucrats and the media throughout the day. But putting an end to all speculation,Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta told Newsline: “The news about Mehra’s transfer is nothing but conjecture. We have not issued any such orders.”

When asked,Advisor Pradeep Mehra said: “I do not have any information on the issue and have not been intimated about any such transfer.”

UT Home Secretary Ram Niwas also denied any knowledge. “We have not received any such orders from Delhi,” he said.

The rumours started spreading this afternoon when a website flashed the news of Mehra’s transfer.

Sources said that owing to the ongoing rift between the Administrator and the Advisor even the Central government had expressed concern on the issue. Recently, the Central Vigilance Commission, while acting as a court, had ordered a probe into the controversial mega-projects.
