Residents of various colonies of Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) held a mobilisation rally at Sector 47 on Sunday. Among the issues raised by the residents were implementation of citizens charter and regularisation of need-based changes in houses.
The residents under the aegis of the Chandigarh Housing Board Residents Federation organised the rally where apart from the members of the federation,current and former councillors were also present. Addressing the gathering,the speakers stressed on the requirement to allow need-based changes in houses built by the board.
The federation has also been demanding implementation of the citizens charter at all offices of the city before August 15. Apart from these,public audit of the expenses incurred on public works executed by government contractors has been demanded. Another demand is that the powers that are given to officials should be transferred to the councillors of the Municipal Corporation.
The federation has prepared a comprehensive action plan for the purpose. Public rallies will be held on May 20 and 27.
A seminar on the issue will be organised on June 3. A public rally on August 15 will also be held to announce the future course of action if the demands are not met.
