Resham Sharma mesmerised everyone present at Dhruv Pandove Cricket Stadium in Patiala with a five-wicket haul as Punjab thrashed Haryana by an innings and 81 runs in the three-day league match of Vijay Merchant Trophy for U-16 cricket tournament played on Wednesday. Resham made immediate impact in Haryana’s second innings,breaking the backbone of the visiting team’s batting with his incisive bowling. Punjab batsman Shubham Gill had earlier provided the perfect cushion to the hosts with a superb double century.
Haryana won the toss and batted first. Despite AD Tanwar’s half-century (79),the visitors were all out for 213 in 81 overs. Mayank Markande bowled exceptionally well to return with five wickets while Resham grabbed three wickets to bowl out Haryana for a modest total.
Punjab gave a strong reply to Haryana as Shubham Gill showed grit and determination to complete his double century and put the hosts on top. He was eventually out for 205. Siddharth Rawat (77) and Mayank Siddhu (80) were the other notable contributors for Punjab as the hosts declared their innings at 451 for 8 in 106 overs.
For Haryana,AD Tanwar shone with the ball and picked up four wickets.
Haryana,like in the first innings,crumbled against the formidable Punjab bowling attack and were all out for 157 in 71.4 overs. Resham continued from where he had left and once again tormented the Haryana batsmen.
He finished with figures of 5 for 29. Nipun Pandita grabbed three wickets for 36 runs. SG Rohila top scored for Haryana with 56 runs.
