Unimpressed by the proposal to hold a one-day international at Dharamshala, the state secretariat of the CPM on Sunday asked the BJP government to clarify as to whether it will bear the expenses of the security cover being provided for the cricket matches or ensure that the organisers foot the bill. The party has instead urged the government to recover the arrears from the IPL governing body and the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association, which according to the party,is over Rs 1.64 crore for two earlier matches in May 2011.
The state government has admitted that it had spent the amount to provide security for the IPL matches but hasnt recovered the money from the organisers so far, said Tikender Panwar ,CPM state secretariat member.
Panwar added that he was shocked at the BJP was making noises about the resource crunch and was unable to pay the arrears of employees but was showing magnanimity to the IPL that is flooded with enormous wealth and is superfluous of funds.
He further said the BJP government was squeezing all social security measures under the garb of a resource crunch but hasnt thought of making the HPCA reimburse the security costs. He warned against any move to provide free security to IPL events.
