‘Recession is the time to start new ventures’

The Post-Graduate Departments of Economics and Entrepreneurship Development of GGDSD College,Sector 32C organised a seminar on ‘Recession and Its Impact on the Job Market: Alternatives’ on Saturday.

Principal of the college,Dr A C Vaid,urged all students “not be perturbed by recession and not seek employment”. He said: “They instead should create employment because this is the right time to start new ventures.”

The keynote address was delivered by senior faculty at the University Business School (UBS),Prof S K Chadha,who delineated the entire sequence of events that led to the global meltdown,besides throwing light on the current trends in the national and international systems.

He elaborated on the placement scenario and appealed the students not to feel threatened and rely on innovations. He stressed upon the “need to devise new paradigms of progress,governance and leadership.”

HoD of the Departments of Economics and Entrepreneurship Development of the college,Nisha Angrish,said starting a new venture during recession is like a “vacation time.”

“Determination,talent and effort is what one needs to focus on,” she stressed and advised the students to “overpower the fear of uncertainty and risk.”

Senior lecturer in the Department of Commerce and Management at the college,Ajay Sharma,suggested the students not to panic,as recession,according to him,has had a smaller impact on India.

The need of the hour in turn is “to focus on the new and quality,” He asked the students to “change their perceptions and look for opportunities because there is always a relationship between interest,premium and risk.”

The presentations were followed by various interactive sessions in which the students put forth their queries that were addressed by their chief speakers.
