Rashly driven car hits cop,five students arrested

In another incident in which personnel of the Chandigarh Police were at the receiving end,a member of the Cheetah staff was injured after a rashly driven car hit him on Sunday. Five students were arrested and remanded in judicial custody.

The incident occurred around 5 am on Sunday when two constables of the Cheetah staff were posted at their stoppage point at the Sector 14-15 light point. The Cheetah staff is deputed at different locations between 10 pm and 6 am. They noticed a rashly driven car (CH03 F 8701) heading towards the light point.

The occupants of the car were reportedly in an inebriated state and making a lot of noise.

As the two constables,Sanjeev and Sandeep,tried stopping the car,the driver of the car hit into one of them and sped away. It was after a chase that the car was stopped and the five arrested. The accused were identified as Vangyal,Jigmewangchuk,Kezong,Jonyang and Ugyen. All of them were staying as paying guests in Sector 15. Two of the accused are students of Chitkara University at Baddi and the remaining are studying in different departments of the Panjab University. Three of them belong to Bhutan and two are natives of Nepal.

DSP Ashish Kapoor said,“The constables were deployed at the light point and tried to stop the car when they noticed it was being driven rashly. The driver of the car hit the constable and sped away. They were later nabbed. The boys were drinking beer in the car and making a lot of noise.”

A case under sections 147,149,332 and 353 of the IPC has been registered at Police Station,Sector 11 for rioting,obstructing public servant from performing duty and assault.

This is not the first time that policemen have been at the receiving end of such incidents. Two days back,members of a family thrashed a traffic policemen at a naka for drunken driving. There have been several incidents where policemen,particularly those manning traffic nakas,have been assaulted or hit by vehicles.
