Yoga guru Ramdev on Tuesday backed Gujarat CM Narendra Modi as the BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate, saying that Modi ‘walks the talk’,unlike the Congress and the Nehru-Gandhi family, who,he alleged had “looted” the country like no one else. He stated that the Congress had failed to deliver on all fronts.

Addressing mediapersons in the city,Ramdev stated that Modi was a secular leader who had credibility. He further said that support for Modi is based on a credible assurance on the issue of black money and corruption. He added that Modi does not require any certificate from the Congress on whether or not he is secular. He said that he was behind Modi as he is capable of bringing back black money, ending corruption and bringing a change in the present system. He added that the BJP needs to bring a change in its character.

Ramdev said that though he met both Modi and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on the issue of black money,he has received no assurance from the latter or from the Prime Minister for the same. The yoga guru said he would support any leader who promises to bring back black money.

Ramdev accused Rahul Gandhi of not being in the country when the Uttarakhand tragedy hit and thousands of lives were lost.

“Congress needs no one else,Rahul Gandhi is sufficient to bring its downfall,” he said. On whether Ram Temple should be an election issue,he said that Ram is a symbol of national honour of the country.

There should not be any debate on the issue of building a Ram temple.

Talking about the rail bribery scam,Ramdev alleged that it was Union Minister Kapil Sibal who was behind the entire episode to expose Chandigarh MP Pawan Bansal and his relatives. Bansal’s nephew Vijay Singla was arrested in May for accepting Rs 90 lakh as bribe from a member of the Railway Board. Thereafter,Bansal had to step down from the Railways Ministry.

Ramdev alleged that Sibal was trying to oust Bansal so that he could contest from Chandigarh as he was certain to lose from Chandni Chowk. He added that both would lose from the city. Ramdev further said that in China,a minister has been awarded the death penalty for corruption. He demanded that corrupt persons should be given stringent punishment.

Ramdev also interacted with the Chandigarh unit of the BJP.
