PUSU president Tejpal Singh Cheema who had been suspended from the department after slapping a student during the recently held youth festival, has been asked to join back the classes.

The decision was taken in a committee meeting held recently. The suspension lasted for a period of about one and a half months.

Talking to Newsline,Chairperson of the Department of Law,Prof P S Jaswal, said,“I have received an intimation stating that Tejpal should be taken back and his suspension should be cancelled.”

Tejpal is likely to face issues related to attendance as it is mandatory for a student to have a minimum of 75 per cent attendance in every subject.

Cheema was suspended after he had reportedly entered into an argument with Harkawal,a student from the Department of law during the youth festival and slapped him.

The fight had reportedly occurred after a confusion arose over the distribution of food coupons during the fest.

A complaint about the same was made to the university officials by the Students’ Council.

Taking note of the incident, the officials had suspended Cheema.
