The police had registered a case of cheating against the accused on the complaint of one Vimal Gupta and 22 others in 2015.

Opposing the police remand, the counsel for Aggarwals, advocate Arun Kumar and Varun Bhardwaj, said the duo had already undergone a police remand on the basis of a similar complaint in the Panchkula courts and should be in judicial custody.

There are several complaints against Shalimar Mall pending in the UT consumer courts as well. More than 100 complainants have alleged that they were promised shops in the Shalimar Mall in Sector 5, Panchkula, but were never handed over the possession of the shops nor the money was returned.

Innet Aggarwal, the son of the accused, had been sentenced imprisonment on May 17 by the consumer courts, but was granted bail by the National Consume Disputes Redressal Commission.

The mall owners are yet to pay Rs 6.68 crore property tax to the Panchkula Municipal Corporation. The mall was closed down last year.
