The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday put the Punjab government on notice on a petition seeking removal of five non-official members of Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission on the ground that the state government had failed to introduce any Bill in the Vidhan Sabha for replacing the Ordinance of their appointment by appropriate legislation within stipulated time.

The petition was filed by advocate HC Arora who has questioned the appointment of Gian Singh Diwali, Prabh Dayal, Rajinder Kumar Guddu, Tarsem Singh Sialka and Raj Kumar Hans in the month of March. The petitioner has submitted that the Punjab Governor had issued an Ordinance on December 1, 2015, for increasing the number of non-official members of the Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission, from existing maximum three such members to not more than 10 such members.

The case would now come up for hearing on September 14.
