Punjab National Bank will lock horns with Rail Coach Factory while Punjab & Sindh Bank will take on Punjab Police XI in the semifinal stage on Sunday in the ongoing 43rd SN Vohra All India Gurmit Memorial hockey tournament being played at the Sector 42 Sports Complex in Chandigarh.

Playing in the quarterfinal stage on Saturday,Punjab & Sindh Bank drubbed Indian Air Force 2-0 to enter the semi-finals. For Punjab & Sindh Bank,Harbir Singh scored its first goal in the third minute of the game to put the team ahead.

The Indian Air Force team fought back but failed to pose any goal threat. Playing attacking hockey,Gurinder Singh earned a penalty corner,which he later converted in the 24th minute of the game,to tilt the match in favour of Punjab & Sindh Bank.

Meanwhile,in the second quarterfinal match,Punjab National Bank overpowered Chandigarh XI 5-3 to storm into the semifinals. Dhamandeep Singh scored two goals for Punjab National Bank,his first coming in the 32nd and the second in the 67 th minutes respectively. Hardeep Singh opened the account for Punjab National Bank,firing a field goal in the eighth minute. Chandigarh XI scored their first goal froma counter-attack as Triveni sounded the board in the 12th minute of the game to restore parity.

Satpal then put Punjab National Bank ahead 2-1in the 30th minute. Dhamandeep stretched the lead to 3-1 by scoring a goal in the 32nd minute. In the 49th minute,Arjun converted a penalty corner in a goal to extend the lead to 4-1 for Punjab National Bank.

Although Neeraj and Guaroli scored goals for Chandigarh XI,they couldn’t stop the opposition team from scoring their fifth goal as Dhamandeep sealed the fate of the match in Punjab National Bank’s favour by scoring his second goal of the match in the 67th minute.
