A DAY after Congress MLA Tarlochan Singh Soondh hurled a shoe at Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia in the Punjab Assembly, Punjab Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh Thursday said he was opposed to hurling a shoe at anyone.

In the same breath, he said, it was a reaction to Akali MLA Virsa Singh Valtoha’s caste slur.

“Our legislator got emotional and reacted,” he said while justifying Soondh’s act and demanding that Valtoha should be arrested.

Addressing the media here today, Amarinder said the entire session did not reflect well on the Speaker.

He said the party will launch an intensive campaign to reach out to people from September 26 to November 1. The campaign has been named, “Congress liyao, Punjab bachao”.

The modalities of the campaign were worked out today at a meeting of senior party leaders, zonal coordinators and district presidents.

Giving details, PCC senior vice-president Laal Singh said the campaign will cover all the 117 constituencies.

The state has been divided into 13 parliamentary zones with three coordinators in each zone.

Laal Singh said, the party has custommade 13 vehicles for each parliamentary zone, which will carry the party’s message in every nook and corner of the state.
