Punjab colts beat Karnataka in their own den in Cooch Behar

Punjab played like a well-oiled unit and easily thrashed Karnataka by an innings and 72 runs in the Cooch Behar Elite C tie at Bangalore. Anmolpreet Singh and Prabhjot Singh came up with sparkling centuries while Karan Kaila,recently included in the Indian U-19 team for ACC Asia Cup,shone with both bat and ball.

Earlier,Karnataka won the toss and elected to bat first. Their decision,however,backfired as the hosts were all out for 152 in 65.4 overs in their first innings. AM Reddy shone with the bat and top scored with 59 runs. For Punjab,Sunny (3 for 47),Siddharth Sharma (2 for 37) and Karan Kaila (2 for 28) shared the spoils.

Punjab gave a strong reply to the hosts by posting 552 runs on the board before declaring their innings for the loss of eight wickets i 134 overs. Punjab made a good recorvery after losing their opener Pukhraj Singh off the third ball of the opening over. Anmolpreet and Prabhjot batted well and put on 121 runs for the third wicket before Anamolpreet was dismissed after scoring a brilliant 168 off 217 balls (22 fours,3 sixes). Thereafter,Prabhjot showed his batting skills and smashed 113 off 163 balls with the help of nine boundaries as Punjab completely decimated the hosts bowling attack. Contributions from other batsmen helped Punjab cross the 500-mark and declared their innings at 552 for 8 in 134 overs. P Krishna took three wickets for the hosts.

In their second innings,Karnataka fared better and managed to score 328 but it couldn’t save them from suffering an innings and 72-run defeat at the hands of the Punjab team. Abhinav Manohar missed out on a well-deserved century by six runs while Pradeep T also was out for 65.
