From bearing an entirely deserted look in the morning to being painted lemon green with the colour of SOPU,the Panjab University campus changed drastically over Friday.
During the election, the campus seemed entirely deserted as all students were required to be present within their departments by 10 am,in order to cast their votes. The tents of all the parties, which had been home to party supporters throughout the campaigning process in the past one week, were empty, with chairs piled on top of each other. By around 12 noon, the election process at most departments was over and counting of the votes polled had begun.
Anticipation grew after 1pm,as results from all the departments started pouring in. the results of the science departments, however, were a turning point for this years elections. While on the one hand,SOPU members started with celebrations even before the official announcement of results,on the other hand,PUSU members were seen to be on a backfoot almost immediately. SOPU had confirmed a lead of over 450 votes from science departments by then, which was difficult to cover up,by any party.
The SOPU,SOI,HSA and SFI alliance rejoiced as the DSW announced the final results from the Students Centre at around 4 pm. Celebrations continued throughout the evening,as the supporters danced and made rounds of the campus, along with a band. The university turned lemon green with small SOPU stickers being flung into the air.
