Savita Ahlawat,a research scholar from Department of Geography,Panjab University (PU),has been awarded the Best Oral Presenter Award at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Regional Conference on Food Security at Penang in Malaysia.
Ahlawat was the only student from India to attend the conference organised by the Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture,Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry from October 8-10.
Ahlawat,pursuing her PhD on Food Security Professor Dhian Kaurs supervision,presented her joint paper Spatial Patterns of Food Security in Haryana: A District- Level Analysis.
The paper showed the per capita availability of food grains varies from 258 grams in Faridabad district to 3,881 grams in Fatehabad district in Haryana.
Her study revealed that of 21 districts,only eight districts had food grains availability higher than the state average of 1,982 grams.
