Panjab University and PGI on Tuesday sought additional land from the UT Administration for expansion of their campuses. While PU has demanded 180 acres,PGI has sought 100 acres.
The Administration has agreed to identify available land and show it to the institutes before taking a final decision.
A discussion on the issue was held in a meeting chaired by UT Adviser K K Sharma and attended by the Director,PGI and the PU vice-chancellor.
The two institutes have demanded additional land be allotted so they can set up more departments.
The demand was put forth during the hearing of the Board of Inquiry that was listening to the suggestions and objections about the draft Master Plan. While provisions have been made in the Master Plan for the institutes, the land already allotted to them is almost exhausted.
PU wants to set up more hostels and start new departments, while PGI needs land to set up additional facilities to cope with the huge rush of patients.
