PU celebrates World Music Day

The Panjab University (PU) community radio station 91.2 Jyotirgamaya celebrated World Music Day on Friday in a very unique way by releasing a music CD.

The Panjab University (PU) community radio station 91.2 Jyotirgamaya celebrated World Music Day on Friday in a very unique way by releasing a music CD. The CD has 10 original songs all sung by varsity students and recorded in the Jyotirgamaya studio.

The Vice-Chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover released the CD and participated in a live talk show on the occasion. Five books have been recorded for more than 250 hours for the benefit of visually challenged students.More than 200 students have performed at 91.2 Jyotirgamaya and recorded around 250 songs till date. Speaking on the occasion,Prof Grover said that music unifies humanity. “Music is also something which permits you to express your feelings in an innovative way. In the context of our Indian heritage,classical music is practised in the form of Hindustani classical music or Carnatic music which have the same roots.” Prof. Archana R Singh,Prof. Manjit Kaur,Director Public Relations Vineet Punia were also present.
