PU banks on placement record to ease students’ worries

Panjab University (PU) announced that as many as 596 students of the university had been successfully placed in various companies in the last academic session of 2012-13.

With placements becoming a concern for its students,Panjab University (PU) on Thursday announced that as many as 596 students of the university had been successfully placed in various companies in the last academic session of 2012-13.

While University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) had 195 students getting placed with offers ranging between Rs 3-10 lakh per annum,University of Applied Management Sciences had 126 students placed with packages ranging between Rs 2.4 – 5 lakh per annum. The University Business School (UBS) placed 70 students with packages ranging from Rs 5-8.7 lakh per annum.

According to a PU spokesman,during 2012-13,40 students were placed from Dr S S Bhatnagar University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology,32 students from Department of Computer Science and Applications and 20 students from University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

However,placement records of some departments were relatively low,including Department of Statistics University Institute of Fashion and Technology and Department of Physics. The spokesman informed 156 students had got jobs through the placement drive AVSAR-2013,where 156 students were selected.
