The second round of counselling for centralised admissions to BCom-I started at Panjab University (PU) on Friday.
All seats for the 85 per cent UT pool (general category) candidates in PU-affiliated colleges were filled up, with the student with rank 1,989 getting the last seat.
GGDSD College, Sector 32, which remained the most-sought after college, recorded a cut-off of 107, with the last admitted rank being 331. At DAV College, Sector 10, with a cut-off of 97, the last admitted rank was 1,036.
At Government College of Commerce and Business Administration, Sector 42, all seats were filled up, with the student with a merit score of 100.2 (rank 824) getting the last seat. Post-Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 11, closed admissions at rank 1,001, whereas the student with rank 1,114 got the last seat at MCM DAV College for Women, Sector 36.
The second round of counselling saw a rush of students who did not get the college of their preference in the first round of physical counselling. “I came here during the first round of counselling, but I did not get the college of my preference then. Fortunately, I have now got admitted to the college of my choice,” said Anmol, a candidate vying for admission at DAV College.
The coordinator for the admission process, Professor Sanjay Kaushik, said, “Students who could not make it to the first round of counselling are also being allowed to appear for counselling. For now, all seats in the general UT pool have been filled, but we will allow students to shift their seats if any seats get vacant.”
He added, “In case a substantial number of vacant seats are left vacant after the second round of counselling, we might have a third round.”
On Saturday, the second round of counselling for candidates belonging to the outside UT (15%) pool (general category) will be held. Admissions for the reserved categories will also be held on Saturday. Further, on the last day (Sunday), the admissions for the Department of Evening Studies at PU will be held.
