While the former Mayor scrambled to have his name associated with a project in the city,by holding a ceremony to initiate work on an overbridge,an hour before the model code of conduct came into force on November 1,2011,almost two months later, work,or any development,is yet to start on the project.

Former Mayor Ravinder Pal Singh,an hour before the model code of conduct came into force for the Municipal Corporation polls, held a ceremony at the site in the presence of the civic body officials.

The work, however,is yet to begin as the Municipal Corporation is yet to receive permission,to cut trees at the proposed site, from the Administration. Without the Administration’s clearance, work on the project cannot begin and to add to the Municipal Corporation’s woes, construction material has been dumped at the site and sheds have erected.

A Municipal Corporation official said permission has been sought from the Administration for cutting of trees that fall in the way of the construction, but the civic body is yet to receive the clearance.

An overbridge already exists in Sector 17 and a second one had been conceptualised by the city’s creator,Le Corbusier. The bridge is an attempt to ease traffic congestion on the road. The proposed site witnesses vehicles being parked on either side of the road, adding to the traffic chaos.
