After battling cancer for several years,Priyanka Chopras father Dr Ashok Chopra succumbed to the ailment on Monday morning at Kokilaben Ambani Hospital in Andheri West,Mumbai. He was 62.
The Chopra family the actor,her mother Madhu and younger brother Siddharth were with him in his last moments. Several members of the film industry,including Genelia Deshmukh,Bipasha Basu,Vishal Dadlani and Anubhav Sinha,among others,tweeted their condolences.
Dr Chopra was a physician in the Indian Army and was stationed at various cities in the country. After his daughter became an actor in Bollywood in 2000,the Chopra couple moved to Mumbai. He was also a singer and in 2011,he released an album of shabads (verses from the Guru Granth Sahib).
Dr Chopra was first diagnosed with cancer in 2005,when Priyanka was shooting for Rohan Sippys Bluffmaster. The cancer,however,recently resurfaced. He was last seen at an awards function in Vancouver in April this year,where Priyanka bagged the Best Actress trophy for playing the role of an autistic girl in Barfi!.
As someone who was very attached to her father,the actress recently had Daddys Little Girl tattooed on her wrist. On Friday,Priyanka had even organised a Mahamrityunjay puja at her home.
