Police solve 5 cheating cases

The Chandigarh police on Monday claimed to have solved five cases of cheating and fraud,with the arrest of a city resident,who allegedly duped many people on the pretext of selling them used cars at cheap rates. Police,on receiving a tip-off,arrested Bhupinder Singh Sodhi,the accused,from Sector 43 on Monday.

“A possible reason why Sodhi used to pretend to be a leader of a religious community could have been to gain trust among customers as it would project him as an honest man,” an officer said.

After taking an advance of about Rs 30,000 from the customers,Sodhi used to accompany them to a local court to clear formalities,then used to pretent that he has some work and would run away. Whenever he used to realise that an FIR has been registered against him,he would file a false complaint of harassment against the complainant.

Sodhi,42,claims to be a resident of Jalalabad though his residential address is yet to be verified. Police have recovered a Maruti Esteem car from Sodhi’s possession. With his arrest,police have claimed to solve five cases of cheating – two in Mohali,one at Sector 34,one at Industrial Area and one at Sector 36.

Missing girl returns home

PANCHKULA: Police on Monday said the girl whose family had earlier alleged that she was kidnapped returned to her home late on Sunday. The brother of the girl,Vijay Kumar,had registered a complaint with the police and the police was investigating the case. Police said,that it appears that the girl had gone on her own with someone she knew. Meanwhile,in Kalka as well police registered a case of kidnapping against one Happy after the family members of a minor girl alleged that she was lured by the youth on the

pretext of marriage and later kidnaped her. The police is investigating the case after the complaint was filed by Ram Shanker of Railway colony.

Man acquited in molestation case

A local court on Monday acquitted a man accused of allegedly molesting a four-year-old girl at a crèche in Sector 38. The accused,Monty,was the son of the owner of the crèche. Victim’s mother had registered a molestation complainant. The complainant would leave her four-year-old daughter at a creche in Sector 38-C and go for work. On March 16 around 7 pm the child complained about some problem. She was taken to the government hospital in Sector 16. After examining her the doctor called police. Police arrested the accused on the same day and a case was registered against him under Section 6 of the

Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code. As per available information,the victim and her mother both retracted from their previous statements.
