A review of the investigations carried out in the murder of 24-year-old Hoshiarpur girl,Jyoti Kumari, involving Doon MLA from Himachal Pradesh,Ram Kumar Chaudhary, has revealed that the team of officials who investigated the murder ignored the finding of the MLA’s role in other crimes. Not only this, the police only once video-graphed the statement of the MLA given to it for his role in the Jyoti murder case and did not do it subsequently.

Police sources said that this has reflected badly on the investigations carried out in the case, adding that this has only given credence to allegations that money exchanged hands to incite them to proceed slowly in the the murder case. Sources said that the statement of Ram Kumar Chaudhary was video-graphed only once and not the second time,a fact that was also questioned during a recent review of the case by senior police officials before the challan in the case was filed with the court.

Sources add the police officials who were investigating the case chose to ignore probing the details of the past crimes of the MLA to substantiate the police case about the involvement of the MLA in the crime.

According to police sources, the review in the case was carried out on the directions of the director general of police of Haryana,Shriniwas Vashisht. The sources said that the police had information that the MLA had allegedly also had relations with another girl of Himachal Pradesh who had committed suicide after her marriage. The girl was working on the STD of the MLA nearly 15 years ago.

Sources also add that the police was also tipped about the role of the MLA in another murder of a youth in Mullanpur area of Chandigarh, but no effort was made to trace the involvement of the MLA in the case.

“Not only was the police tipped about the involvement of the MLA in the the death of a Mullanpur youth, but it was also given information about his role in at least three other crimes against him,” police sources said.

However Investigating Officer in the case,Virendar Singh, said that the police investigation in the case is fool-proof. About the involvement of the MLA in the Mullanpur murder case,he said that it is the job of the Chandigarh police to investigate that murder. “We have concluded the investigations in the case and have filed the charge sheet against the MLA,” he said.
