The local police conducted a special search and verification drive in the slum areas of Mohali early on Sunday morning. Led by Mataur SHO Sub-Inspector Atul Soni,a heavy police force,including commandoes,knocked at the hutments and semi-kutcha houses spread across various areas in Sectors 70,71 and Mataur.
The drive was conducted in view of the recent incidents of robberies in Panchkula and Chandigarh,said Soni. He said as many as 19 suspected persons were rounded up for questioning,but were later released after their antecedents were verified.
Besides,four auto-rickshaws were confiscated after their claimants failed to prove their ownership.
The drive was a preventive measure to check the antecedents of suspected elements and find out if any anti-social elements were hiding in the area said the SHO.
