Plantation drive at PGI tomorrow
A tree plantation drive will begin at PGI on August 15 with over 500 saplings being planted during the campaign under Prof. Yogesh Chawlas chairmanship,Director PGI. Dr. Satish Narula,a renowned environmentalist will be the invited dignitary,while Dr. Babita Ghai,Additional Professor,Department of Anaesthesia,will supervise the campaign. The drive will start in the new OPD complex and cover the PGI campus and PGI Community Centre in Sector 24.
PU allows five additional seats per college
Panjab University on Tuesday decided to allow an increase of five seats per unit of forty seats in various courses of its affiliated colleges by removing the cap of maximum ten additional seats,which was imposed earlier. The decision was taken in the special session of the Syndicate meeting,held on Tuesday presided over by vice-chancellor Professor Arun Kumar Grover. The Syndicate has revised its earlier decision taken on July 27 to allow a maximum of ten additional seats in its affiliated colleges. It was announced that colleges having forty or more seats in a course will be allowed five additional seats per unit subject to maximum of ten seats in the college,while courses having less than forty seats were allowed ten percent additional seats.
87 cadets take part in NCC training camp
The 10-day combined annual training camp of the naval wing NCC cadets is being conducted by 1 CHD naval unit NCC at Chandigarh from August 12-21 with as many as 87 cadets from various colleges of Chandigarh taking part in the camp. The cadets will gain given exposure in living and training together as per the syllabus laid down to inculcate the spirit of comradeship and develop leadership. In addition,extensive training in sailing and yatching will be imparted to the cadets to prepare them for sailing expeditions and competitive water sports at the Directorate and All-India level camps.
Preventive treatment for brain strokes
Max Super Speciality Hospital in Mohali launched the Transcranial Doppler (TCD) on Tuesday,a tool for prevention and treatment of brain stroke. TCD is used either in the initial hours after the stroke or later as per treatment. Dr Deepak Gupta,Consultant Neurology and Stroke Specialist said that TCD is a diagnostic tool that assessed the blood flow in the arteries of the brain. It is a portable machine approximately the size of a computer screen.
Dikshant School to participate in Harvard MUN
A seven-member delegation from Dikshant International School,Zirakpur will represent Mongolia in the third session of the Harvard Model United Nations (MUN) India 2013 from August 15 to August 18. The students will present a paper on United Nations Special Summit on Oil 2015 in the Economic Council and a paper on Commission on the status of women and Human Rights Commission in the General Assembly.
