PGIMER has been judged as the second best institute for medical education in India amongst the top 15 multi speciality hospitals and also amongst the five best government multi speciality hospitals by The Week- Nielsen best hospitals survey 2013 published in The Week. The specialties of paediatrics and diabetology at PGIMER have been rated as second best,while neurology and cardiology as third best. Oncology and ophthalmology have been rated as fifth and sixth respectively. AIIMS,New Delhi has bagged the first position and CMC Vellore the third.
PU Hindi dept condoles death of writer
The faculty and students of the department of Hindi,Panjab University (PU) condoled the death of renowned Hindi writer Om Parkash Valmiki on Monday. Born in 1950,Valmiki breathed his last on Sunday at his home in Deharadoon,Uttrakhand. Valmiki shot to fame after the publication of his autobiography Joothan,a true harbinger of Dalit-discourse in Hindi language. He was also a poet and short-story writer of the books like Sadiyon ka Santaap (published in 1989) and Ghuspethiya (2004). Joothan has been translated in Enlglish as well as several European languages and is part of many universities curriculum worldwide. He has also penned down Dalit Sahitya ka Saundrya-Shastra and Safai Devata,which describes the cannons of evolution for Dalit literature and a history of Valmiki Community respectively. He was a fellow at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study,Shimla.
Sports students visit police Suvidha centre
As part of the Global Visitors Week,sports students of Mohali district on Monday visited the Community Policing Suvidha Centre (CPSC) in Phase 1 Mohali. Sub-Inspector Narinder Singh,in-charge of the subdivision 1 of the Suvidha centres addressed the students and answered queries.
Poster-making competition held at CII office
The IT department of Chandigarh Administration and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organised a poster-making competition on Innovations in IT,at CII headquarters Monday. Team from GMSS 46 was declared winners while GMSSS 16 won the 1st Runners Up prize and GMSSS 35 bagged the 2nd Runners Up trophy out of the various schools that participated in the contest.
Thanksgiving celebrated at Saupins school
The students of Saupins School,Mohali,staged a variety of performances to celebrate the Thanks Giving Week today. The programme included presentations on Child Labour and Rights of Children,cultural performances and a Hindi play. The play titled Andher Nagri Choupat Raja showed the theatrical skills of students.

Vivek High School,Mohali stood first in 20th District level childrens Science Congress in the senior category. The team members comprising Shaurya Gulati ,Muskaan Aroraaa,Karishma Kaul,Gursher Singh and Iqbal Singh worked on the topic Green roof,Heat proof,in which they emphasized on the dual function of terrace,minimizing the temperature of the house during summer months and maintaining garden.
