The Institute Body(IB) of the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) would meet in New Delhi on Thursday to discuss a panel of three doctors shortlisted by the search and selection committee formed by the Union health ministry to select the new PGI director. All the three names shortlisted by the committee, which is headed by Union health secretary C K Mishra, are the applicants from the PGI and one among them is Dr Meenu Singh, who is from the department of paediatrics, sources told the Chandigarh Newsline on Wednesday.

“The names of the applicants shortlisted by the selection committee are all from PGI. The three names will be presented before the IB members on Thursday who will discuss and then make their recommendations further,” said a health ministry official.
As many as 26 applicants had appeared before the selection committee that conducted the interviews last month. Other committee members include Dr V M Katoch former Director General of ICMR, Dr Shridhar Dwevedi from Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences & Research New Delhi.
The Institute Body of PGI is headed by Union Health Minister J P Nadda.
Sources said the IB would further make their recommendations to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), which will finally select the PGI director.
“The ACC is headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will select a final name for the PGI director,” said an official.
Those who are considered to be the front runners of the PGI director are Dr Jagat Ram, head Advance Eye Centre, PGI, Dr Anil Bhansali, head of endocrinology, Dr G D Puri, head of anaesthesia, Dr Arvind Rajwanshi, head, department of cytology and gynecological pathology and Dr K Gauba, head, department of oral health sciences.The tenure of former PGI director Yogesh Chawla ended last month. Dr Subhash Verma was asked by the Union health ministry to take over as PGI director until a new appointment is made.
