Students seeking admission in PEC University of Technology, Sector 12 have a reason to celebrate as the varsity has decided to increase the number of seats for admissions in under-graduate and post-graduate courses by 25 per cent, from the next academic session starting from July.

While, 15 more seats will be added to the four-year Bachelor of Engineering (BE) course, the number of seats in Master of Engineering (ME) will be increased from four to six seats.

The decision was taken in view of the increasing competition among the students during admissions, as a result of which most of the engineering institutes have also increased the seats. “The number of seats has remained constant in the institute since last few years, so keeping in mind the increasing competition, we decided to increase the number of seats,” said Professor Sanjeev Kumar, admission in-charge.

The institute offers a four-year Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in eight different disciplines, with 60 seats each. This includes Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials and Metallurgical Engineering and Production and Industrial Engineering.

However, the two years Master of Engineering (ME) carries 18-25 seats each in various disciplines, including civil engineering and mechanical engineering.

The BE admissions to PEC are conducted jointly with five other technical institutes of the region by a Joint Admission Committee (JAC) notified by the Chandigarh Administration. There are five other engineering institutes which participate under JAC – 2014 apart from PEC. Admissions to BE will be based on the rank list prepared by the CBSE taking into consideration the score in JEE (Main)2014 and normalised score in Class XII, with 60 per cent and 40 each weightage to each respectively.

The admission brochure for the new academic session, 2014-15 will be available from the first week of July.
