Patil reviews projects,directs UT officials to utilise funds optimally,prevent delays

Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Shivraj V Patil today directed the officials of various departments to ensure full utilisation of funds allotted to them during the current financial year.

Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Shivraj V Patil today directed the officials of various departments to ensure full utilisation of funds allotted to them during the current financial year. He stated that the delay in execution of projects be curtailed. Patil emphasised on providing better public transport,use of modern technology for quality education and upgradation of existing health facilities.

In a meeting of the officials of all the departments,a review of the ongoing works was done. Physical and financial progress of various departments during 2012-13 was also discussed. A presentation was made with regard to performance of various departments during 2012-13 and the proposed plan schemes for the current financial year under various head of development.

With not all departments being able to utilise the funds in a financial year,these tend to lapse. There are instances when the expenditure till December is less than the budget that remains to be spent between January and March.

Patil stated that not only should the departments ensure complete utilisation of funds,but also work on quality of output under various schemes. He directed that efforts should be made to curtail delay in the execution of projects.

Education,health,transport and social welfare would be the key areas of focus. Patil stated that all departments,particularly education and health departments,should be proactive in planning their projects keeping in view the long-term requirements of these sectors.

He emphasised that the education department must plan in advance the construction of schools and classrooms taking into account the future growth in enrollment. It was desired that modern methods and technologies must be deployed to improve the quality of education. He further emphasised that more hostels must be planned to cater to the needs of girl students,who come to Chandigarh from different parts of the country.

The health department was directed to work on the upgradation of existing facilities and purchase new equipment. Lack of good public transport in the city was highlighted and Patil directed that the facilities be improved. The use of information technology would be made to bring efficiency to the administration.
