Sukhwinder Singhs run-up to the crease was unhurried. Yet,the manner in which he pivoted on his left foot at the last moment to extract that bounce from the surface showed how quickly he wanted to wrap up the Ludhiana innings.
Few over laters ,including those in which he picked up wickets,Sukhwinder was grinning proudly. His six-wicket haul (6 for 78) had helped Patiala win the u-19 Dhruv Pandove Trophy by beating Ludhiana by an innings and 323 runs at the Dhruv Pandove Stadium on Monday.
Patiala needed to beat Ludhiana comprehensively to log maximum points. While they grabbed seven points from the match,Chandigarh, who were breathing down their neck, finished with three points to secure the second place.
Patiala were served well by Sukhwinder but credit also goes to Prabhjot,Anmolpreet and Sanbir, who strucked centuries each to help the hosts post a huge total,to guide Patiala to the title.
After posting a massive total of 644 for 8 in their first innings,Patiala restricted Ludhiana to a first innings total of 111 runs. They enforced the follow-on on Ludhiana team and then bundled them out for 201 in 79.1 overs.
Nimit Malhan top scored for Ludhiana with 46 runs while Sandeep batted well during his knock of 45 runs. While these two batted well, other batsmen failed to rise to the occasion and fell like pack of cards.
For Patiala,Sukhwinder was the pick of the bowlers as he bowled well to finish with six wickets for 78 in their second innings. He was ably supported by left-arm spinner Karan Kaila who returned with figures of 4 for 50 in the second innings.
