Applicants poured in as a a special Lok Adalat was held on Thursday at the Regional Passport office (RPO) in Sector 34. The aim of the Lok Adalat was to resolve pending passport applications of people who had filed manual application forms in 2010 and 2011 before the Regional Passport Office,Chandigarh shifted to the online passport system. The registrations were open from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM,after which no new registrations were entertained.
Applicants at the office gave a positive feedback to the Lok Adalat.
Coming out of the passport office,Satinder Singh,an applicant said,My application had been pending for 3-4 months due to the absence of some papers,but all issues have been resolved in this Adalat and I am expecting my passport today.
No long queues as such were encountered and the progress was smooth throughout the day.
Talking to Newsline,Regional Passport Officer,Rakesh Agarwal,said that around 400 applications had been received for disposal. He also said that the RPO is going to hold a Lok Adalat every three months to clear out the pending applications. Most of these cases had been pending for around a year and the Lok Adalat will resolve all that are registered toady in a matter of 2-3 days.
The applicants whose applications had been on hold due to various objections were not separately contacted but only a press release was issued on April 26.
All those who fail to appear today will have their applications closed and will have to apply again giving the reference number of the earlier application.
