A delegation of the Chandigarh Parents’ Association (CPA) met the Director of School Education(DSE) on Friday and informed him about how most private schools in Chandigarh have been collecting huge amounts of money to organise annual functions and other events like fetes in school campuses. CPA member Poonam Kaushal said that none of these schools provide any breakup of the amount being charged or details of the budget or expenditure incurred in organising these functions. Most schools also do not issue any receipt for the money collected for these events.

One such concerned parent, Sabeeha Khan, said that most parents hesitate in individually questioning the schools for these details, even though it is the duty of each school to provide this information transparently.
Every parent feels this pain but do not complain fearing harassment of their children. It is the right of the parents to know the expenditure details of their money without having to ask for it individually, added Khan.
President of CPA Nitin Goyal said that the response from DSE was positive and that it is the parents’ right to know the details of the expenditure incurred by the schools. He has assured the CPA delegation that he is going to ask the private schools to issue proper receipts for any payments collected from parents, share expenditure details with them voluntarily and that the schools cannot be allowed to make profits in organising functions etc.
