Student organisations at Panjab University are going all out to lure students before the elections. From fresher parties to trips to the hills and film shows, the students are being given several inticements.

The members of Students’ Organisation of India (SOI) will be taking students to Kasauli on August 24.

On the poster printed to promote the trip, names of past office bearers of the SOI Rashpal Hakuwala, Mandeep Dhaliwal and Piyush Anand Bawa are mentioned.

According to SOI members, a minimum of two buses will be arranged for the students. Sources have told

Chandigarh Newsline that a provision of DJs has also been made for the entertainment of the students.

“These things have become a necessity for student organisations as the students are greatly influenced by the pomp and show of the parties. Joining a big party gives them bragging rights among their friends. So, every new student doesn’t want to walk away from this temptation,” said a student of UIET.

ABVP which earlier organised film screenings of big Bollywood stars to lure the students is now organising a freshers party at a local disc, Tamzaraa, on August 24.

“This year’s election has lot at stake and ABVP is trying to form a solid base and are leaving no stones unturned.

All these are investments for the upcoming elections,” said an ABVP member.

The students say that as the elections approach, the incentives also increase.

“The new students are easy targets and they slowly get a hang of the university politics and become soft targets. This also shows the deteriorating standards of university student politics,” said another

student.
