Additional District and Sessions Judge Sanjay Sandhir Monday awarded 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment to a man for raping a minor last year.

The court awarded the sentence to Prince, son of Sohan Lal and a resident of Ambala, under Section 376 of the IPC,after police had booked him for rape and criminal intimidation of a minor.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 along with a 5-year prison term for kidnapping the girl and a fine of Rs 500 and a 1-year prison term for threatening the girl.

On April 23 last year,Prince, who was related to the girl, had visited her house in Beed Ghagar when she was alone. The girl had told Prince that she wanted to go to Sector 6 government hospital for a check-up. The accused, who had brought his motorcycle, offered to drop her at the hospital. However, instead of going to the hospital, the boy rode towards Ambala. As the girl protested, the boy put a knife on her throat and threatened to kill her if she screamed and later raped her.

The girl did not support the police case, but rape was proved through a DNA test.
