Paddlers Shubhangi,Ishaan claim cadet titles

Shubhangi and Ishaan Kapoor claimed the titles in the cadet girl’s and cadet boys' categories respectively,in the First Chandigarh State Ranking table tennis tournament being played at Sector 23 Table Tennis Hall on Friday.

Shubhangi and Ishaan Kapoor claimed the titles in the cadet girl’s and cadet boys’ categories respectively,in the First Chandigarh State Ranking table tennis tournament being played at Sector 23 Table Tennis Hall on Friday.

Playing a controlled game,Shubhangi of Delhi Public School,Sector 40,ended the challenge of Aparna of Gurukul School,Manimajra,with a 11-9,9-11,11-7,11-8,11-13,10-12,11-8 victory in the cadet girls singles’ finals. Shubhangi won the first game with a 11-9 margin before losing the second game 9-11 in a thrilling duel.

The DPS player then claimed the third and fourth game 11-7 and 11-8 respectively,but lost the fifth game 11-13. With pressure mounting,Shubhangi lost the sixth game 10-12 before making a superb comeback to win the final game,11-8,to claim the title.

In the cadet boys’ singles final,Ishaan Kapoor of DAV Public School,Sector 8,ended the challenge of Amey of St Xavier’s School,Sector 44, to emerge winner.

Kapoor easily claimed the first game 11-1 but lost the sec ond one 4-11. He then annexed the third game 11-9 before losing the forth and fifth games. But keeping his nerves Kapoor made a valiant comeback in the match and claimed the final two games to win the title.
