One arrest solves 18 cases of chain snatching,vehicle theft

In a significant breakthrough,the Chandigarh Police has made an arrest,which has led to solving of 18 cases of chain snatching and vehicle theft lodged at various police stations of the city.

In a significant breakthrough,the Chandigarh Police has made an arrest,which has led to solving of 18 cases of chain snatching and vehicle theft lodged at various police stations of the city.

Following the spate of incidents of chain snatching reported in southern sectors of the city,policemen in civil clothes were deployed to collect intelligence on such cases.

The arrest was made after the Chandigarh Police put a naka near House No. 2396,Sector 44-C,headed by a team from the Sector-34 police station,following some information regarding the suspect. According to the inputs received on August 7,Sanjay alias Suraj,known for snatching/vehicle theft,was coming to Sector 44 on a black Pulsar motorcycle,reportedly for chain snatching.

The accused was arrested around 6.45 pm on August 7 after he tried to escape on being asked by the naka incharge to stop his motorcycle.

A team under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent Police (South) was constituted for his interrogation. During questioning,the accused disclosed his name as Sanjay alias Suraj,a resident of Salwan village in Fatehpur district (UP). He also revealed that he had put a fake registration no — CH01-AA2527 — on a stolen motorcycle. Later,he was produced in the court,which remanded him in police custody for four days.

According to the police,12 cases of motorcycle

thefts reported under the jurisdiction of police stations,Sector 34,31,Raipur

Rani (Haryana) and six cases of chain snatching have been solved after his interrogation.
