On his way back after recovering stolen car, Panchkula cop killed in accident

A HEAD constable of the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) of the Panchkula police was killed after his vehicle was hit by a truck here on Saturday. He was returning after recovering a stolen car.

Sanjeev, 31, was posted in CIA-1 and hailed from Bawahi village in Kurukshetra. He is survived by his wife and two children.

The incident happened late on Friday night, when Kumar, who was on duty, was returning from Amritsar along with three other police officials. “We had recently arrested three accused in a case of car theft and took them on police remand for three days. After their interrogation, a team of four police officials, including Sanjeev, was sent to Amritsar to make recoveries,” said Inspector Narender Singh, CIA-1.

Sanjeev was driving the Safari which was recovered by the team while the other three police officials were in the police van which was following closely behind. Around 3 am, when they reached near Arkha village in Nawanshahr, a truck coming from the opposite direction hit the Safari. Sanjeev was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

A post-mortem was conducted in Nawanshahr, after which the body was brought to Panchkula for the last rites. “The last rites have been conducted. A proper procedure will be followed and the family will be granted compensation as per the government norms,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Anil Dhawan.
