An NRI residing in Australia has levelled serious allegations of brutality and false implication at the hands of the Mohali police, including some senior officers,on Monday. Amit Kumar Saini,an automotive engineer in Australia, who came to India on October 22 last year, alleged that he and his friend Sandeep Sandhu have been falsely implicated in a case involving an alleged attack on the Nayagaon police station in January. He also showed a video to this effect. He added that after their repeated attempts to demand re-investigation into the case failed, they will now approach the High Court and demand a CBI inquiry.

According to Saini, his friend Sandhu was implicated in a false case, locked up and tortured by the Mohali police at Nayagaon. Later on,they left him unconscious outside the station so that he may be taken away by his family. But his family members and friends continued to wail over Sandhu’s condition and tried calling the media and senior police officials,at which point the police arrested them and allegedly choreographed the whole “drama” of an attack on the police station,Saini said. He also alleged that SP (Detective) Balwinder Singh, who arrived on the scene along with other SPs and DSPs,personally ordered SHO Samar Vineet to bring weapons from his house and then “stage” the attack.

“I was stripped naked, beaten up for 2 hours, after which SP Singh demanded Rs 50 lakh from me to let me go,” Saini alleged.

Saini showed a footage of Sandhu’s family and himself tending to an unconscious Sandhu in front of the police station.

SP (D) Balwinder Singh, when contacted, said,“As far as I can remember, there was a clash between two parties near the police station, after which one of them attacked the station and the personnel present inside. They have already been booked and chargesheeted. They are just making these allegations because they have no other option left but to cry foul.”

Current SHO of Nayagoan Shinderpal Singh said,“More than a dozen people tried to barge into the station and free Sandhu, who was in custody. Sandhu pretended to fall unconscious and the whole thing was pre-planned. They damaged property and attacked the men inside. But they were all subsequently arrested and their attempt to free Sandhu failed.”

Asked about the video in which no police official is seen outside the station where Sandhu is lying unconscious,DSP (City One) Rajinder Singh Sohal said,“Such a video,if it exists,is probably fake. When they tried to free Sandhu, the police intervened and arrested them.”
