Countless Amritsar-bound cars and taxis carrying Akali leaders, supporters and workers today created traffic jams on the Ludhiana-Jalandhar National Highway.

Over 10-km stretch on the highway witnessed chaos, especially from the Old Sabzi Mandi to the Jalandhar bypass, octroi post to 1 km towards Jalandhar and near the toll tax barrier, adjoining Satluj Bridge.

None of the cars of the convoy paid the toll tax and were allowed to pass through the VIP gate. Lok Chand,a Phagwara-bound commuter, said,“It took almost double the time to cross this overcrowded stretch. The state government should keep the convenience of people in mind while arranging such events.”
