After a revamp, the Sector 14 night food street is likely to commence from November 15. A statement to this effect was made by the counsel for the Chandigarh Administration before the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Assuring that prices, this time, will be nominal, the counsel told the court that a draw of lots will take place on November 1.
The auction of the night food street will be held through a draw of lots and the monthly rent will be Rs 25,000. Last time, the rent of a kiosk at the night food street was Rs 60,000 to 70,000. Earlier the exorbitant rates at the night food street attracted controversy. Late in 2010,the Punjab and Haryana High Court had issued a notice to the MC and UT administration on the issue. Following serious displeasure expressed by students and customers, the night food street was closed down after the Administration gave an undertaking to the High Court that the night food street will be revamped.
After deliberations,it was finally decided to bring down the exorbitant price and hold a draw of lots instead of auction.
