NGO Yuvsatta has put forth a proposal for Chandigarh Haat on the lines of Dilli Haat to be started at the booths under the newly constructed overbridge in Sector 17. This would then become another tourist attraction in the city.
Citing the Delhi governments successful experiment of Dilli Haat to promote the rich crafts of India,Parmod Sharma,Yuvsatta co-ordinator,said in a letter to MP Pawan Kumar Bansal,Mayor Subhash Chawla and Municipal Commissioner Vivek Pratap Singh that hardly any visitors came to Sector 17. However, with a lively Chandigarh Haat the site could become a major local and tourist attraction.
He said that like Dilli Haat the new Bridge Market or ‘Chandigarh Haat’ could be conceived as a series of small display spaces through which a visitor could walk and discover items on display. As in Dilli Haat, the stalls could be allotted to the craftsmen on nominal rents for 15 days.
