Members of an international community based organisation,Narcotics Anonymous, held a meeting to help other drug addicts who are willing but not able to quit drugs.

Amitabh,a member of NA said,“Our organisation works on the principle of anonymity,we are recovering addicts and meet on a regular basis to motivate each other to quit drugs. The programme is based on the 12 steps which are practiced on a regular basis and ensure “freedom from active addiction.”

Benji, another member said,“There are no doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists or counselors at the NA. The meetings are conducted by its members only, who talk about their experiences in recovery and help others in the process. It is solely based on the spiritual principles such as honesty, willingness, acceptance etc.”

He further said,“We keep the identity of members anonymous, securing their identity from the outside world. There is no entry fees, but only requirement for membership in NA for one is to have a desire to stop using drugs.”

“We conduct regular meetings in public facilities which provides an environment for addicts to identify and help each other to cope and learn to stay away from all mood altering substances including alcohol,” said Vardha, member of NA.
