WHILE the BJP is trying to cash in on the demonetisation issue in the coming municipal polls, the Congress has started distributing pamphlets on how Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision was causing problems for the common man.

Titled – Kya ye ache din hai? (Are these good days) – the pamphlet has details of what happened since demonetisation. The Congress has claimed that 100 deaths have taken place across the country due to this announcement. The pamphlet even refers to the Rs 500 crore spent on a wedding overnight, hinting at the wedding of former BJP minister Janardhan Reddy’s daughter.
The pamphlets have been distributed in Sectors 1 to 11. These would be circulated in other wards soon. “Income Tax has the entire list of those holding black money. If they wish, they can recover it overnight. There have been 100 deaths till now. Big fat weddings are taking place even now where Rs 500 crores have been spent in one night. Money is being spent extravagantly on election rallies? Is black money not being spent here? But the government is not taking note of it. Why are only the poor and middle class being troubled?” the pamphlet asks.
HS Lucky, Congress general secretary, who is likely to contest from ward 1 and has got the pamphlets circulated, said, “We are not opposing the move of demonetisation but the way it has been messed up. This is not the way to implement it. If BJP tries to bank on it, it is going to be a mistake. Businessmen who are members of BJP are also troubled.”
About the Rs 2,000 note, it was mentioned that since no shopkeeper has any change, a buyer is forced to take products of the entire amount. City BJP chief Sanjay Tandon said: “The Congress is criticising this because they were not able to convert their black money which they collected in the last 10 years through corruption. Money collected from rail scam and booth scam could not be converted and that is why they have been saying that some time should have been given.”
