Munda helicopter crash: Haryana issues directions on safe landing at helipads

In wake of Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda’s recent helicopter crash,the Haryana Transport and Civil Aviation department has issued directions for safe landing and take off of helicopters from temporary helipads,to ensure safety of VIPs.

In wake of Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda’s recent helicopter crash,the Haryana Transport and Civil Aviation department has issued directions for safe landing and take off of helicopters from temporary helipads,to ensure safety of VIPs.

As per instructions,the pilot of the helicopter shall not fly a VIP on board from a new landing site or helipad unless he receives a certificate issued by the concerned deputy commissioner (DC).

The helicopter should only land on sites that the pilots know are safe and fit for landing. If a helicopter is to be taken a new landing site,a notice of at least one day has to be given to the concerned DC to enable him to prepare the helipad.

“The DC has to ensure that the new helipad should be on level ground and the helipad has been sprayed down with water,brick lying and mud wash”,the instructions read.

The instruction further read,“The DC’s certificate issued to the pilot,should also mention that an area of 15 meter radius around the helipad is free from all obstructions. An ambulance should be deployed exclusively for the helipad and a fully functional fire tender should be positioned at the landing site with sufficient security personnel for crowd control”.
