LOCAL MP Kirron Kher’s father Colonel (retd) Thakar Singh passed away after a brief illness at their residence in Sector 8 here on Tuesday. He was 103. Several people visited the MP’s house to convey their condolences. Singh is survived by three daughters. His son Amardeep had died in a road accident in 2003. Col Singh had retired from Army Service Corps (ASC) in 1968. He served at many stations and his last posting was at Jabalpur.

He was a recipient of Sena Medal. He participated in Goa Liberation Movement, 1961. He had also participated in India-China war in 1962 and later in India-Pakistan war in 1965.
Mayor Arun Sood, councillors, including those from the Congress, and other BJP party workers too conveyed their condolences. The cremation will be held at the Sector 25 cremation ground on Wednesday. The Bhog and Antim Ardas for the departed soul will be held at Sector 8 Gurdwara on November 12.
