Mohali: Auto hit scooter, 25-year-old killed

Police booked the auto-rickshaw driver, but he managed to flee from the spot.

A 25-year-old man was killed in a road accident near gurudwara Amb Sahib in Phase VIII on Thursday when a rashly-driven autorickshaw hit an activa scooter. Police booked the auto-rickshaw driver, but he managed to flee from the spot.

The deceased, identified as Himanshu, was working as a clerk in an IT company at IT park in Chandigarh. He was going towards Phase VIII along with his uncle who was riding pillion.

When Himanshu reached near Amb Sahib, the autorickshaw, which was trying to overtake a car, hit Himanshu’s two- wheeler. Himanshu fell on the road and died on the spot, while his uncle survived.

Phase VIII station house officer Lakhwinder Singh said they have registered a case against an unknown autorickshaw driver under Sections 277 (), 427(Mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees ) and 304(culpable homicide not amounting to murder. ) of the Indian Penal Code, but the accused is yet to be arrested.
