Legendary athlete Milkha Singh participated in an arthritis awareness walk organised by the Rheumatology: Department of Internal Medicine, PGI, Tuesday morning. Singh addressed the gathering outside the Kairon block and emphasised on healthy eating and lifestyle for a healthy living. “He urged the participants to take care of their health. He also complimented the doctors for taking this initiative,” said a PGI statement.
Prof Y K Chawla, former director PGI, arthritis patients and their relatives, various faculty members, resident doctors and around 250 people from various walks of life participated in this event, the statement added. The walk started from the Kairon block, PGI and ended at Sukhna Lake.
“Some of the faculty members ran all the way to the lake and back to Kairon block. Many were seen enquiring about the various arthritis problems which were duly answered by the experts. Handouts about rheumatoid arthritis were also distributed to the people,” the PGI said. Carrying placards displaying messages such as ‘arthritis is treatable’, ‘early treatment, effective treatment’ and ‘arthritis is of various types- all are treatable’ were received very well by the people. The participants especially patients and their relatives urged the organisers for hosting such events regularly.
