With mild showers in Ferozepur and Fazilka, the administration is on it toes. Though it claims that things are under control, but officials did not deny that if it rained yet again,it can pose problems for the paddy that is lying in the open.
Following the showers,DC S Karuna Raju has ordered that water proof sheets be arranged for the mandis. As of now things are under control. We wish that it does not rain tomorrow because the stock is in the open. Though rice millers are not lifting the stock in most districts, but the situation here different. Of the total stock that has arrived in various mandis, over 47 per cent has been lifted, he said.
Till now,3.08 lakh quintals of paddy has been lifted, out of which,60,000 has been done by private players. In most mandis, stocks are not being allowed if the moisture was less than 18 per cent.
